The Michelin Guide's review
Founded in 1949, Shikotsu-Toya National Park encompasses many great sites including Lake Shikotsu, Noboribetsu, Lake Toya and the seething Usu volcano. The visitor centre provides maps and information on walks. With so many mountains to climb, enthusiasts could easily stay for a week. There are also many waterfalls and hot springs (Noboribetsu Onsen), as well as the emerald-green Lake Okotanpe perched at 571m above sea level... Of course, the famous moss cave featured in all the brochures is a must.
