Taiyu-in mausoleum is the resting place of Tokugawa Iemitsu (1604-1651), grandson of the first shogun. A shaded path marked out with lanterns and doorways, leads to the mausoleum, whose oratory is guarded by 140 dragons and a Chinese lion. The main hall, which precedes the tomb (closed to the public), is depicted by an abundance of ornamentation depicting flying dragons encircling a phoenix.
