The Michelin Guide's review
To the left of the cathedral is the Cabildo, erected by the Spanish government in 1799 to house the town council offices; it is where the Louisiana Purchase was signed in 1803. Today the handsome building and adjacent Arsenal present excellent displays on Louisiana history, and one of Napoleon's four bronze death masks (1821).
