The Michelin Guide's review
The Lowveld National Botanical Gardens, north of Nelspruit, are worth seeing. A network of trails takes you through its extensive collection of plants grouped by species. Of particular interest is the space devoted to the tropical forest and a strange variety of palm tree known as the King Sago that was around at the time of the dinosaurs. This pretty garden provides a good introduction to South African flora, with the sound of insects and warbling birds as a backdrop.
