Tatacoa Desert

The Michelin Guide's review
This impressive desert lies in an area beaten by the winds, halfway between the upper course of the Río Magdalena. Although the Tatacoa Desert is surrounded by wet mountain forests, rainfall is violent here, albeit brief and rare, turning the desert green again then evaporating in a matter of a few hours. In this unique bosque tropical seco ecosystem, thorn bushes bent by the wind grow here and there, along with candle cacti, among eroded cliffs and unstable ravines.
