The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The history and traditions of the Makahs come into sharp focus in this fine museum. In 1999, the tribe's decision to start whale hunting after a self-imposed moratorium lasting 70 years provoked much discussion. The centre's exhibitions include the well-preserved remains of a Makah coastal village buried in a mudslide in the 15C and exposed by tidal erosion in 1970, as well as objects from the site. Tourist permits to visit the Native American territory can be purchased at the museum.
