Sansevero chapel
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The superb chapel, Cappella Sansevero, was built in the 16C. The interior was entirely reworked in the 18C in an exuberant Baroque style at the behest of Raimondo di Sangro, Prince of Sansevero; this eclectic, brilliant figure had a passion for alchemy, science and Freemasonry that is the stuff of legend. It may only be the initiated who notice the masonic symbols that litter the site, but everyone will enjoy the exceptional beauty of the sculptures, including Disinganno (Despair) and the magnificent Veiled Christ.
