The Michelin Guide's review
Off the beaten tourist path but well worth the visit to admire the country's largest remaining stands of bald cypress, the sanctuary is owned by the National Audubon Society. An almost 2mi boardwalk trail begins in pine flatwoods and winds through wet prairies, around marshland to the largest old growth bald cypress forest marked by giant 500-year-old cypress trees. Visitors may glimpse alligators, wading birds, tropical orchids and swamp lilies, some of which are endangered species.
