The Michelin Guide's review
This marsh island was reclaimed in the early 18C by traders who made their fortune in slavery. The architectural ensemble, elegantly enhanced by balconies and grotesque masks, sometimes seems to defy the laws of balance - the ground is somewhat soft around here! Today, it is an island only in name, because between 1926 and 1938, it was joined to the town when the arms of the Loire were filled in.
