The Michelin Guide's review
Pre-war, this was one of the finest sights in the former Yugoslavia with Ottoman houses lopsidedly clinging to the steep slopes of the Neretva, their terraces crowded with climbing vines. The Old Bridge, a symbol of the city since its construction in 1566, was destroyed in 1993. Its reconstruction ten years later as a potential symbol of reconciliation between the two banks brought to an end the city's painful segregation. Its single arch, framed by two solid rectangular towers, spans over 28m.
