The Michelin Guide's review
North America's tallest sand dunes (230m) cover 100km2 of the west slope of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Formed by wind over thousands of years, the dunes seem incongruous so far from any desert or ocean. The light tinges the fine sand with gold, pink and brown hues.
