The Michelin Guide's review
North of the town of Akita, this peninsula depicted by a jagged coastline, encroaches into the Sea of Japan. It is possible to drive around it on a coastal road (numerous lay-bys). At Cape Shiosezaki to the south, you will be able to admire volcanic rocks, including the famous Godzilla Rock. Cliffs, caves and waterfalls alternate along the west coast and the area is a designated geopark. The region is also famous for its onsen and thriving folklore and traditions, such as the Namahage festival (31 Dec.).
