Its long triangular shape dates back to the medieval period, as do the many passageways and alleys in this district of well-to-do houses. Among the many remarkable edifices are Old Town House, with its elegant arcade, and fortified Castlehead, which dates from the 13C. The 19C Gothic Revival steeple (220ft/67m) of Old Church and Steeple represents an iconic landmark.
