An ancient fortress on the banks of the River Thouet. Behind its barbican (a rarity!), moat and fortified gateway is a 15C castle. Visit the medieval kitchen with its seven-section wood-fired oven, the canon's lodging with its stove, and vaulted cellar, a testament to the château's wine-making heritage. Note the dining room with painted beams, as well as the Duchess of Longueville's bedroom and the little music room, with a desk by the famous cabinet-maker Boulle.
