The Michelin Guide's review
At the time of its construction, the 22-storey Royal Bank of Canada was the tallest building in the British Empire. The lower portion, of Neo Renaissance design, is an austere composition reminiscent of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. The entire tower is best viewed from the opposite side of Rue Saint-Jacques. The bank's headquarters were located here until the 1962 completion of the Royal Bank of Canada Tower at Place Ville-Marie.
