The Michelin Guide's review
The financial heart of Canada until the 1970s, Rue Saint-Jacques, lined with a fine ensemble of 19C and early 20C buildings, still retains much of its former grandeur. Note in particular the Canada Life Assurance Building (no. 275), Montreal's first steel-framework skyscraper (1895), and the Banque de Commerce Impériale, whose façade is adorned with fluted Corinthian columns. Today, the street is experiencing a revival, with several significant new building projects and the conversion of older buildings.
