The Michelin Guide's review
Designed in the 17C by the Sulpician Dollier de Casson, this square long served as military drill grounds. A monument (Louis-Philippe Hébert) in the centre honors the founder of Montreal, Sieur de Maisonneuve, who, according to legend, killed the local Indian chief on this site during a 1644 battle. The west side of this charming green space is dominated by the Banque de Montréal (1847), one of the city's finest examples of the Neoclassical style.
