The Michelin Guide's review
The first important building in Quebec to adopt the Second Empire style was originally built in the 1870s. General Charles de Gaulle delivered his famous "Vive le Québec libre" speech in 1967 from its balcony. Inside are copies of bronze sculptures, The Sower and Woman with Bucket, by Alfred Laliberté. In the Council Chamber (open to visitors if there is no session in progress), note the stained-glass windows which depict aspects of city life in the 1920s.
