The Michelin Guide's review
A stunning Greek Revival building, Alabama's State Capitol was rebuilt in 1850-51 after a previous capitol on the site burned in 1847. Interior highlights include the restored trompe l'oeil panelling (1880) in the original Supreme Court Chamber. The Old Senate Chamber appears as it did in February 1861, when delegates from the seceding southern states met here to form the Confederate States of America (CSA). Two spiral staircases lead to a second-floor view of eight murals depicting the history of the region.
