The Michelin Guide's review
Jefferson Davis (1808-89), President of the Confederate States of America, used this 1835 wood-frame, Italianate house as his executive mansion during Montgomery's three-month reign (February-May 1861) as the CSA's capital. With well-preserved period furnishings and many Davis family belongings, the home feels as though Mrs. Davis may return momentarily to play the Chickering square piano.
