The Michelin Guide's review
All that remains of the original castle is a oval double enclosure with crenellations and flanked by towers. On the large esplanade is the Manueline church, the sober exterior of which contrasts with the interior: twisted pillars with ornate bases, baptismal fonts decorated with azulejos, and last but not least stone altarpieces from the Coimbra School. From the top of the ramparts, there is a panoramic view of the Mondego valley, with vast rice fields, a few cornfields and poplar groves.
