The Michelin Guide's review
The building of the walls was ordered by Peter the Ceremonious in the 14C, and the inhabitants of Montblanc and neighbouring villages were put to work on the site. Until the 15C, the walls remained in good condition, but many ensuing wars have caused irreparable damage. Today only two-thirds of the original ramparts are still in perfect condition. They are 1 500m long, with 31 square towers and four main gates.
