The Michelin Guide's review
This moving cemetery in the Mons region remains one of the most important memorials of the Great War. Created in 1914 by the Germans to bury the victims of the battle of Mons (August 23-24, 1914), the graveyard includes some German tombs but the vast majority are those of British soldiers, mostly from the 4th Middlesex. If you happen to be there during the summer, swing by around dusk, when the low-lying evening sun highlights the layered architecture of the site.
