Michelin
Cloister of the cathedral of Monreale
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This delicate cloister is a superb example of a Christian monument influenced by Arab-Islamic architecture. Its series of pointed arches are supported by 94 slender twin columns, which are adorned with geometric mosaics and crowned by remarkable Romanesque capitals depicting episodes from the Bible and allegorical or simply decorative figures. In the southwest corner, note the smaller cloister graced by a fountain.
