The Michelin Guide's review
Nestled in a deep, lush valley, the magnificent Cistercian complex of Santes Creus (Holy Cross) extends along the left bank of the Gaià River. Since its foundation in the 12C, the monastery has been a major political hub, but also a cultural centre, thanks to its well-stocked library. Highlights of this eye-opening tour of the monastery include the Gothic cloister. The old monastic outhouses now make up a village of the same name, having been converted and turned into accommodation.
