Bourguiba Mosque
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1963, the Bourguiba mosque is traditional in design and remarkable for its rich decoration. Entry is through 19 carved teak doors, the work of craftsmen from Kairouan. The prayer hall, the vaults of which are supported by 86 pink marble pillars, can house 1 000 worshippers. The mihrab is framed by slim onyx columns. The slender octagonal minaret shows Ottoman influence and is crowned by a small gallery.
