Launched in 1942, this massive ship served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of World War II, and earned nine battle stars shooting down 22 enemy planes and participating in six land bombardments. The self-guided tour offers a rare opportunity to enter a massive barbette supporting one of the ship's 16-inch gun turrets. Other attractions in the park include the World War II submarine USS Drum, and 27 historic aircraft.
