The Michelin Guide's review
As you walk through the valley of Shiratani Unsuikyo you will find yourself amid superb conifer forests with cooling rivers and torrents, at an altitude of 800m. One such forest is so photogenic, with its thick layer of moss and century-old trees, that it inspired the imagination of the master filmmaker, Hayao Miyazaki. It has been re-named "Mononoke" after his princess heroine.
