The Michelin Guide's review
This theatre opened in 2012 upholds the puppet tradition present on the island of Awaji for 500 years. This traditional art is depicted by puppetry (each puppet is articulated by three puppeteers dressed in black), shamisen music (three-stringed instruments) and a live story-telling technique by the tayu (chanters). Before each performance, the troupe gives explanations in English. The beauty of the costumes, precision of the puppets' movements and music all combine to create a performance steeped in emotion.
