The Michelin Guide's review
This museum of modern art is housed in the handsome Villa Reale. Built in the late 18C for Prince Belgiojoso, it was the residence of Eugène de Beauharnais, the son of Empress Josephine, during Milan's Napoleonic period (1805-15). A collection of 19C works of art (the city's main collection), the Vismara collection (Modigliani, Picasso, Dufy, Matisse, Morandi) and the Grassi collection (Manet, Van Gogh, Gaugin, Cézanne) occupy two floors of the building. Attractive English-style garden.
