The Michelin Guide's review
Blessed with a mild climate and the black volcanic soil of Daikon-jima Island, this garden nurtures a multitude of different plants. In a recreated mountain landscape, thousands of tree peonies grow alongside camellias, iris, hydrangeas, water lilies, azaleas... amidst boulders, waterfalls and clumps of decorative moss. If you're lucky in your meandering down the alleys equipped with water misters, you may come across a gardener delicately tending a rare plant in the shade of maple trees and black pines of Shimane.
