Mathura Government Museum
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The Government Museum houses a collection of sculptures and bronzes discovered in the region, most of which date from the 1C-6C. This period (the reigns of the Kushans and Guptas) was the golden age of the Mathura School, characterised by the use of cream-flecked red sandstone, which was extracted from the quarries at Sikri. Note the beauty of the carved faces and the strength and grace of the bodies depicted.
