The Michelin Guide's review
Occupying the former Santa Chiara convent (17C), this museum, which takes its name from a renowned archaeologist from Matera, houses a collection of archaeological exhibits that is all the more fascinating due to the fact that Matera has identified the presence of human activity since the Palaeolithic era (from the Quaternary period to 10 000 BC). The items displayed date from prehistory to ancient Greece.
