The vast Parque de la Libertad square would be perfectly at home as a set in a period film, with the locals going about their daily business as extras, and the Colonial-era buildings serving as background... all of which directed by the watchful eye of the "Apostle" José Martí, from his statue in the centre of the square. Look out for the beautiful blue house with its stained-glass windows and wrought-iron balcony: it houses a perfectly preserved 19C pharmacy that completes this trip back in time.
