The Michelin Guide's review
Having walked along the ramparts and through the Gothic doorway of the convent of Nossa Senhora da Estrela, pass through the double entrance door flanked by curtains, lookout turrets and machicolations. A narrow alleyway leads to a square with a pillory. The fortified village is crisscrossed by small streets with vaulted passageways and fronted by whitewashed houses with wrought-iron balconies. In Rua Espírito Santo, which leads to the castle, admire two magnificent balustrades in wrought iron from the 17C.
