The Michelin Guide's review
Today an autonomous province, Åland's islands offer a marked contrast to the mainland, on account of their scenery, culture and traditions. Comprising over 6 700 islands and reefs, the archipelago lies at the mouth of the gulf of Bothnia, forming a strikingly beautiful mosaic characterised by red granite and amazingly diverse flora. Although the highest point is a mere 130m, the scenery is often undulating.
