The Michelin Guide's review
Candi Singosari, built in memory of the last king, Kertanegara (late 13C), is on the route of funerary temples, the last remnants of the Singosari Empire, which preceded the Majapahit Kingdom. Its classical shape is governed by the cardinal points but the decoration was mysteriously left unfinished (see the kala heads). Fine sculptures can be seen at the entrance, and 200m west stand impressive dwarapala (guardians protecting the sanctuary from evil spirits).
