The Soutpansberg region, named for the mountain range it contains, stretches across northern Limpopo province. Its fertile high plateaus crisscrossed by rivers, waterfalls and lakes boast forests in the south and meadowlands and bush in the north. This is the territory of the Venda farming people. Vestiges from their ancestors who fled Zimbabwe in the 18C have been found here, as well as rock paintings by Bushmen.
