Lawrence House Museum
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Surrounded by trees, this handsome 23-room house is a splendid example of the grand residences of Nova Scotia's shipbuilders and sea captains. The entrance portico, with its double curved staircase, is reminiscent of a ship's bridge. William Dawson Lawrence built this house (c.1870) to overlook his shipyard on the Shubenacadie river at the point where it joins Cobequid Bay. Lawrence House Museum has retained most of its original furnishings, including shipbuilding artefacts, photos of 19C ships and a 2m/7ft model of the William D. Lawrence.
