The Michelin Guide's review
The Taoist temples of Mae Song, in the heart of the Golden Triangle, should not come as a too much of a surprise to visitors. They illustrate the history of the village, which was a nationalist enclave for the troops of Chang Kaï Chek at the time when the Communist Party assumed power in China. In the market here, you're also likely to find goods (such as tea) imported from the province of Yunnan, testimony to the Chinese origins of its inhabitants.
