Located in a former slate quarry, the Centre for Alternative Technology is a pioneering establishment that has been inventing, testing and promoting ecological ideas since its creation in 1973. A funicular leads to an array of installations demonstrating the virtues of wind, solar and water power which are both convincing and entertaining. The organically maintained grounds owe nothing to picturesque ideals, but rather extol the beauty of an ecological aesthetic.
