The Michelin Guide's review
The lake recalls the watercolours of Turner who was here from 1842 to 1844. Its winding shoreline offers constantly changing views. Between Lucerne and Altdorf, it is constituted by what are virtually three separate lakes, named from west to east: Vitznau, Gersau-Beckenried and Uri. Covering 114km2, it is the second largest exclusively Swiss lake after Lake Neuchâtel. Impressive high-altitude views down onto the lake from viewpoints on Rigi-Kulm.
