Piazza dell'Anfiteatro
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This curious oblong public space surrounded by buildings is on the site of a 2C Roman amphitheatre: after it fell into disuse during the Barbarian invasions, its stone was used in medieval church building projects, most notably in many marble façades, and the site was covered over by houses. The piazza visitors stroll through today was carved out of the medieval quarter in 1830.
