The Michelin Guide's review
Also known as Vat Pra Mahathat and Vat Si Mahathat, this temple owes its names to the huge stupa (that) erected behind it, dating back to 1548 and with pronounced square foundations inspired by the Lan Na style in vogue in the north of Siam from the 14C-18C. The superb front section of the temple is a mix of different ornamentation techniques: gilded wood on the pediment, stencils on the pillars, and frescoes and low-reliefs on the façade, all of which combine to create a colourful and harmonious ensemble.
