Vat Sikhounmuang
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This pagoda was destroyed by the great fire of 1774, then rebuilt in the Siamese style that was popular at the time. Breaking with the ordinary canons of Buddhist architecture, the sim (sanctuary) opens northwards, towards the Mekong. An attractive 17-pointed dok so fa (roof ornament) with the same number of tiny stupas, each home to a standing Buddha, crowns the red- and orange-tiled roof.
