The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1861 on the slope of Mount Phu Si, the sacred hill of Luang Prabang, this small sanctuary is home to a particularly beautiful cycle of frescoes, which are striking for their finesse and originality. These wall paintings depict supernatural beings (part of a Buddhist legend) identifiable by their pointed halo, interspersed with historical scenes and Chinese characters, merchants, warriors and mandarins, whose presence was widespread in Luang Prabang during the 19C.
