The Michelin Guide's review
Wedged between the Eastern Canal and the Merrimack River, this imposing industrial complex (1873) graced by a central bell tower houses the park's main exhibit. The first floor weave room, equipped with 88 operating power looms, re-creates the jarring atmosphere of a 1920s textile mill. The second floor features a series of exhibits focused on America's Industrial Revolution, Lowell's history, textile production and technology and labor relations, including a riveting labor-oriented film entitled Wheels of Change: The First Century of American Industry. Recorded oral histories of former mill workers provide poignant testimony to the grim realities of mill life.
