The Michelin Guide's review
It's easy to see the Jeffersonian influence in this recently restored 1816 Federal home, with its secret stairway, wide central hallway and many-sided rooms. The spacious, 14-room home was the centerpiece of a 550-acre hemp plantation operated from 1808 to 1865 by members of the Speed family. It was here that John and Lucy Speed raised their 11 children to appreciate a cultured lifestyle. Today Farmington reflects pieces of that lifestyle in its Kentucky furniture and objets d'art.
