The Michelin Guide's review
The Maskinongé River drops 270m/886ft at this point where the Canadian Shield abruptly meets the St. Lawrence Lowlands. In 1663 an earthquake changed the course of the river, cutting through this rocky gorge of gneiss and pink granite. Trails follow the river as it tumbles through the gorge, leading to the site of a 19C paper mill, of which only the foundations remain. A suspension bridge offers views of all seven falls.
