The Michelin Guide's review
The Cordillera Central is dotted with several summits over 3 000m in altitude, the highest of which is the Pico Duarte (3 098m), the rooftop of the West Indies. An ascent of the Pico Duarte is a highlight of the Dominican Republic's sports tourism for its grandiose landscapes, lush vegetation nature (Creole pines, cedars and olive trees), thriving wildlife and matchless views. On the way, you will meet the locals toiling in the fields. Several circuits of varying levels of difficulty lead to the summit, but they all require the services of a guide. Enquire beforehand!
